"For one human being to love another:
that is perhaps the most difficult of our tasks;
the ultimate,
the last test and proof,
the work for which all other work is but preparation.

Letting Go Of Your Pain

Pain is painful enough when it is present. But what confuses me is why anyone would you want to keep pain alive after the painful experience is gone by holding it firmly in their memory? Pain comes into our lives bearing important lessons for us.

Once we have learned what it came to teach, it would be better for us to forget the pain, and in pains place, make space for joy.

If others have hurt you, let the pain go. Don't let your anger or desire for retribution prolong that hurt indefinitely. Forgive, completely let go, and free yourself forever, for that is exactly what forgiveness is about, freeing yourself from the memory of a past pain. Memories are all that keep pain alive. By forgiving, forgetting and moving on, you can be rid of the pain that haunts you.

Learn all you can from each painful experience. Vow to not make the same mistakes again, and then allow yourself to find a new joy to replace each of the old and useless painful experiences. But get ready because soon you will watch as your life takes a prompt and powerful turn for the better, as you remember only the lessons left to you as gifts from the past.

Be The One

We struggle today with the simplest of problems. I have heard many complain that the world is a harsh and unforgiving place that needs more compassion and kindness. I agree. I believe that it does, but the answer seems obvious to me.

. If the world needs a little more kindness, be the one to be kind. If you are aware of a lack of compassion, give it in abundance.

When you come across a problem, be the one to offer a solution. Do your best to turn all problems into opportunities and when the time is ripe for a fresh perspective, be the one to respectfully offer your opinion.

If no one is sure of what to do or say, be the one to offer a genuine smile and a kind word of reassurance. If you know an answer, teach it. When there is something that must be said, be the one to speak up with tenderness and get it out in the open.

If everyone waits for someone else to make the first move, how much will get done? Be the one to step forward and get all those around you moving in a positive direction. The world needs those who are willing to be in the lead. And life richly rewards those who do it with genuine respect and concern for those who follow.

Take the initiative and be a leader, especially in your home. Someone needs to take the lead, and you can be the one to make the difference.

Patience and Faith

How do we get where we want to go in life? We take one step at a time. That is what patience and faith are really all about. Putting one foot in front of the other, even when we feel weak and confused, standing up and putting one foot in front of the other even when we have been knocked down and are in pain.

Setbacks are inevitable, small failures along the way are painful, but they are certainly no reason to quit. In fact we should use our setbacks and our failures as stepping stones on our journey toward our goal.

To create something of lasting value requires lasting effort and commitment. Only when we act with diligence, with persistence, with determination, and with patience, will it come. If we seek to get now what we have been unwilling to plant and sow we will end up cheating everyone, including ourselves. We must instead build the value that we desire to experience. Build it carefully with each thought, each action, each moment and each day.

For when we do we will discover that we have built a bright future filled with integrity and persistence, with faith, patience and love, and we will know that patience and faith strengthened every step, one step at a time.

How is Your Life Working for You?

When clients come to me and ask me if I think that what they are doing is crazy, I usually ask them a question, "How is it working for you?" Most of the time they will confess, "Not very well."

Rather than focusing on what's fashionable, or popular, or what others are doing, pay attention to what is actually working in your life. Anyone can make claims and promises. They can tell you they have the answers. But rather than buying into them, take a realistic look at what works in your life. What gets results, time after time? What consistently creates value, and moves the world ahead? When something really works in your life, it doesn't just work for you, you will notice that it is working for those you love as well.

Sometimes, in order to find what works in your life, you must go through the difficult experience of learning what doesn't work. This process makes the knowledge of what does work all the more valuable, because you've paid dearly for it. So when you know what works, make use of that value and put it into action. Success in relationships, as in everything else, is a matter of taking what works, and putting it to work.

Awareness and Gratitude: The Winning Combination for a Happy Life

When you commit yourself to living an endowed life versus one of entitlement, you realize that every moment is filled with opportunities for appreciation and gratitude. Endowed lenses are lenses covered with words like blessed, fortunate, and lucky.

Maintaining an endowed perspective helps you to remember how fortunate you are for obvious things like your health, your eyesight, your ability to speak, or walk, or run, or even more subtle things, like the kind smile of a friend or the laughter of your children. When you take the time to really look at your life you will discover that something of real value is always there.

Living a life of endowment does not mean that you ignore life's troubles, difficulties and disappointments. An endowed life is not a life lived with your head buried in the sand. Rather, it means that you are committed to finding and fulfilling the real and positive possibilities in every moment; whatever else that moment may hold.

When you challenge yourself to stay aware of those things for which you can be thankful, you'll shed a positive light on even the most difficult situations. Being realistic about challenging or difficult situations does not have to make you negative. Looking at your life through endowed lenses will give you the most powerful and positive perspective during even in the most troubling of times.

If you work to see, know, and acknowledge a real and valid reason to keep a positive outlook in every situation, you can truly change the worldyour world. Don't let the need to have what you desire next impair your enjoyment of what you have now. Instead, let your gratitude serve as a gateway to the abundance that is all around you.

We waste too much time longing for things to be different, when what we need to do is first find value in the way things are. It is important to take action toward the future we choose, but we must remain fully appreciative of where we are and what we have. Don't let the need to have what-ever comes next impair your enjoyment of what is now. Instead, let your gratitude serve as a gateway to the abundance that is all around you. When you let your heart be thankful, it opens your eyes to the reality of abundance that already exists in your life. That endowed reality brings to your life immediate peace, joy and happiness..
